Recreational 2002 Scup Regulations

Mr. Gordon Colvin of DEC reported on a recent meeting with leaders of the charter and party boat industry to discuss 2002 recreational scup regulations. Several potential measures were identified and DEC will present these to the ASMFC Technical Committee to see if they pass muster in terms of achieving the necessary mortality reductions required in New York's recreational scup (porgy) catch. Mr. Colvin stated that different segments of the recreational fishing industry, and different geographic areas within the Marine District, have conflicting needs vis-‡-vis the scup fishery and reconciling these disparate needs through a single set of unified management measures than everybody can live with has been difficult and may be impossible.
