Council Chairman William Wise recognized the presence of and welcomed Mr. Gerry Barnhart, Director of DEC’s Division of Fish, Wildlife, and Marine Resources. Mr. Gordon Colvin, head of DEC’s Bureau of Marine Resources, referred to legislation passed last year to create special vehicular license plates with environmental themes. Two designs have been approved, a Marine and Coastal District plate and a Conserve Habitat plate; he showed samples of each to the Council. Revenue from these plates will go to DEC. Revenues from the Marine and Coastal District plate will support small grants for marine education and related projects.
