Council Chairman William Wise opened the meeting at 2:10 p.m, introducing Major Peter Fanelli of DEC Division of Law Enforcement who, in turn, introduced Lieutenant Ronald D. Stabak. Lt. Stabak was recently promoted to Supervisor of DEC Regions 1, 2 & 3. He was welcomed aboard.
Mr. Wise informed the Council that Councilor Kerry Sullivan had told him that he would be resigning from the Council for health reasons. Mr. Sullivan will soon send a letter to this effect to DEC Commissioner Crotty. Mr. Sullivan’s seat on the Council will be filled via a nomination from the Speaker of the New York State Assembly.
Councilor Sima Freierman briefed the Council on the “Pride of New York” program. The Long Island Commercial Fishermen’s Association, Montauk Inlet Seafood, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County collaborated on a grant from the New York State Department of Agriculture & markets that identifies and promotes the many different food and agricultural commodities of our State, including fish and seafood products. The promotional campaign was launched over the past weekend. Ms. Freierman asked that Council members spread the word on this program, especially among restaurants that might wish to participate in this program.
