The federal minimum size limit on this species has recently been increased and it may be appropriate to raise the state limit so as to conform to the higher federal limit. This is not compulsory, since there is no ASMFC plan yet for monkfish, but the DEC feels it would be appropriate to have the same limits in place both inside and outside state waters (current state limits are 17" minimum total fish and 11" tail).
