Mr. Colvin distributed an updated organizational chart of the Department’s Bureau of Marine Resources. Vacant microbiology lab technician and bacteriologist positions should be filled shortly. The secretary in the finfish and crustaceans section has retired. Councilor King noted that only one staff person was dedicated to crustaceans and he thought this was inadequate given the value of lobster and crab fisheries to the overall marine fisheries of the state. Mr. Colvin agreed and indicated that he would like to devote a significant portion of a future Council meeting to the matter of funding levels available for DEC’s marine program.
