The draft minutes of the Council’s 18 April 2000 meeting were approved with the following two changes: 1) that, in discussing Assemblyman Englebright’s legislative proposal to establish a task force within DEC to conduct a comprehensive assessment of New York’s living marine resources and make recommendations on the creation of marine reserve areas, Councilor Schwab noted that this bill had some worthwhile goals and that, during its earlier years, the Marine Resources Advisory Council had devoted considerable time to discussing the location of environmentally unsound activities adjacent to bays and wetland areas; and 2) that Councilor Schwab had seconded Councilor Sullivan’s motion that the Council support proposed legislation to prohibit the resumption of commercial fishing for striped bass in the Hudson River. The minutes were accepted as amended, 11 : 0 : 0.
