Chairman William Wise opened the meeting at 2:05 p.m, informing the Council that it appeared that a quorum of councilors would be not be achieved at the meeting. The Council’s quorum is eight councilors, including 4 representing the recreational fishery and 4 representing the commercial sector. Only 3 councilors representing the recreational fishery were expected at the meeting; Mr. Wise had heard from one councilor only that morning that he was not able to attend the meeting. Without a quorum present, the Council will be unable to take any formal action at today’s meeting.
Councilor Danielson asked that a discussion of the “I fish New York” program be added to the meeting agenda. Councilor Ferrara made a similar request regarding pending Nassau County legislation that would restrict the weather conditions under which offshore fishing tournaments based in that county could proceed.
