Marine Resource Legislation

Head of DEC’s Bureau of Marine Resources, Gordon Colvin, informed the Council that only one significant bill dealing with the state’s marine resources had become law in the recent legislative session--the bill renewing DEC’s regulatory authority over striped bass and creating a temporary advisory committee to review the striped bass resource and future of the commercial fishery in the Hudson River. All the members of this committee have been identified and invited to serve. The committee’s report is due next winter.
