Research at SoMAS

As the center for marine and atmospheric research in New York state, SoMAS is committed to addressing pressing environmental problems while also conducting basic research to better understand oceanographic and atmospheric processes. These complex issues require a broad, interdisciplinary approach, and SoMAS is proud of its integrated programs that address:

Environmental Modeling and Prediction

Patterns and Impacts of Climate Change
Environmental Health and Contaminants
Conservation and Management of Marine Resources
Biogeochemical Transformation of Energy and Elements
These kinds of research projects are possible at SoMAS because strong collaboration among the faculty and students allows them to combine and build upon their strengths in the more traditional core disciplines of
Atmospheric Science
Biological Oceanography and Marine Biology
Chemical Oceanography
Geological Oceanography
Physical Oceanography
